Question:
How to tell if a scion tC is a spec or base model?

The car is listed as a spec edition, however, it lists the wheels as alloy and the moon roof does move. Which leads me to think its a base model. Is there any way to tell if the rims are alloy by looking at them? Or do the steel and alloy look the same? Thanks.

There are only 3 trims for the tC; The well-equipped in a “mono spec” trim, the Release Series, and finally the Spec which only ran from 2007-2009. The Spec was built for people who planned to mod the car with aftermarket wheels and such or for those who wanted a cheaper car to race prep. The Spec had no movable sunroof glass, no cruise control, standard radio w/o steering wheel controls, urethane wrapped steering wheel, 16" steel wheels w/ plastic covers, no "one touch" windows control, no side airbags (atleast for 2007), and a few other odds and ends.

If it's the release series than it is the base. However some tell tale signs between the base and the spec include, the Spec model does not have steering wheel controls, while the base does, the spec has 16" hubcaps, while the base has 17" alloys, of course with the release series you might have something else too. But long story short, you have a base.

If it is a spec model then the steering wheel won't have the radio controls. The Sunroof moves on the spec and the base. The wheels on the spec are 16" as opposed to 17." So that should hopefully help you out.
